Saltman set to miss out on school place

LLOYD Saltman’s hopes of extending his season and gaining a European Tour qualifying school reprieve look set to be dashed.
The 24-year-old fell at the first hurdle of the q-school last month, but could reappear in November’s stage two with a top 90 finish on the European Challenge Tour rankings.

Saltman, 95th on the money list, needs an invitation to next week’s Italian Federation Cup in Rome – the final full-field event of the 2009 season – if he is to claw himself up the order. However, with nearly all the places now filled, his hopes of gaining another crack at the qualifying school appear over.

Saltman’s father and manager, Jack, said: “Because it’s the last event of the season, everyone’s chasing a place. It starts on Wednesday so it’s not looking good.”
